Terms of Use

Updated: 2026-10-19

1. Who we are and what this is

FolkNet (the "Service") is owned and operated by FolkNet Inc., a Delaware corporation, 1401 Lavaca Street, STE 80284, Austin, TX 78701, USA. Contact: [email protected].

The Service is an intermediary marketplace: a Client posts a task (buy an item, inspect a place, run a local errand), a Tasker responds, and the two agree between themselves. We are not a party to the deal between Client and Tasker and do not perform tasks ourselves.

Taskers are independent users, not employees, agents or partners of FolkNet, and we do not supervise their work. Nothing in these Terms creates an employment, partnership or agency relationship, and FolkNet cannot bind any user to an obligation.

Identity checks, badges and ratings are not guarantees of a person's honesty or skill: decide whom to deal with at your own risk. FolkNet does not insure tasks, items or parcels; the parties are responsible for their own insurance.

By registering you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

2. Account

You are responsible for the accuracy of your profile and for keeping your access secure. One person, one account. You may not hand your account to anyone else.

You may use the Service for personal or business purposes. If you use it for a company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on its behalf, and they then bind that organisation. Each account still belongs to one named person.

To receive payouts, Taskers complete identity verification and connect a payout account with our payment partner Stripe (Stripe Connect), under Stripe's own terms.

3. How an order works

The Client accepts a Tasker's response and pays. The money is charged and held by our payment partner Stripe until the order is completed; the Tasker does not receive it until the order is confirmed or completed under the rules below.

Before work starts the Service generates a short agreement with the amounts and terms, which both sides accept. AI hints (checklists, receipt checks, translations) are for guidance only: people make the final decision, and a receipt check does not prove that a receipt is genuine.

Pressing Accept, Pay or a similar button is your electronic signature and has the same effect as a signed agreement.

Payment collection agent: by accepting an order the Tasker appoints FolkNet as its limited agent solely to accept the Client's payment (through our payment partner Stripe) and pass it on to the Tasker under these Terms. FolkNet is not a bank or a payment institution. A payment by the Client to FolkNet counts as a payment to the Tasker for that order. If money due to the Tasker is not paid out because of FolkNet, the Tasker may claim it only from FolkNet and not from the Client.

4. Price and platform fees

Client service fee: 10% of the task amount (purchase budget plus Tasker fee), added on top at payment.

Tasker fee: 20% of the Tasker's reward if the reward is below 500 $ (or the equivalent in another currency), and 15% if it is at or above that amount. Deducted at payout. The purchase budget is not subject to the Tasker fee.

If the item is bought for less than the stated budget, the difference is returned to the Client. The overpay allowance, if the Client set one, is held on the card together with the budget: only the actual price of the item is charged, and the unused part is returned after receipt is confirmed. Fees are shown before payment; we may change them for new orders with advance notice.

Money in the Service is held and calculated in the order currency. Banking and payout times depend on Stripe, your bank and your country.

We may delay, hold or refuse a payout for as long as needed to comply with the law, to answer a payment partner or an authority, to verify identity, or to investigate suspected fraud, abuse or a breach of these Terms. We will tell you the reason where the law allows.

Taxes: where the law requires, we add VAT, GST, sales tax or a similar tax to our service fee. The tax is calculated by Stripe Tax from your country and address, shown on the payment summary before you pay, and refunded in the same proportion if the fee is refunded. Taxes, import duties and customs charges on the item or its shipment are not part of our fee and are the responsibility of the parties (section 14).

If a tax applies to the Tasker fee, it is shown in the app and deducted from the Tasker's payout. Taskers remain responsible for their own income taxes (section 14).

5. Cancellation and refunds

The Client may cancel an order that is unpaid, or paid but with the item not yet bought. If the money has been charged, the full amount paid is refunded.

A Tasker may decline an order until the item is bought; the amount paid is refunded to the Client and the order reopens.

Once the item is bought, cancelling or declining is no longer possible; a dispute remains.

6. Automatic deadlines

To keep orders from stalling, the Service applies deadlines: if the Tasker does not buy the item within 5 days of payment, the Client is refunded and the Tasker is removed; if the Client does not pay within 3 days of choosing a Tasker, the Tasker is removed from the order.

If the item has shipped and the Client neither confirms receipt nor opens a dispute for 7 days, the order completes automatically and the Tasker is paid (a warning is sent 2 days earlier). If the item is bought but not shipped within 10 days, the order goes to review as a dispute.

7. Disputes

The Client may open a dispute after the item has shipped. The money stays frozen until the dispute is resolved. Our administrators decide based on the chat, receipts, photos and other order materials: either pay the Tasker or refund the Client.

Our administrators may read the chat and attachments of an order if a report was filed against it, a dispute was opened, or our anti-fraud system flagged it. See the Privacy Policy for details.

A bank dispute (chargeback) is handled under card network rules, and we may suspend related payouts. Please use our dispute process first: a chargeback opened for an order that was delivered and confirmed, instead of using that process, breaks these Terms, and we may restrict the account. If a chargeback is caused by the Tasker, we may deduct its amount from the Tasker's future payouts.

8. What is not allowed

You may not post or perform tasks that break the law or others' rights, or tasks to buy alcohol, tobacco products or vapes. No fraud, abuse, taking payment outside the Service, forged receipts or photos, spam or malicious material.

You also may not buy or arrange through the Service cryptocurrency, NFTs, gift cards, prepaid or stored-value cards, money transfers or similar items that are commonly used in fraud.

You may not impersonate another person, pass off someone else's work or identity as your own, or let someone else use your account. You may not scrape the Service, use bots, bypass its security, reverse engineer it or introduce malware.

You may not use the Service for work or activity that is not lawful where it is performed, including undeclared work.

If you deal or pay outside the Service, none of our protections (holding of payment, disputes, refunds) apply to that deal, and we may restrict the account.

You can report an order from its card. We may hide content and restrict or block accounts for violations.

Reviews and ratings must be honest and based on a real order: no abuse, threats or other people's personal data. Profiles, reviews and order cards can be seen by other users. We may remove reviews and content that break these rules.

9. Liability

The Service is provided "as is". We are responsible for operating the platform and for payments held through our payment partner as far as the law requires, but not for the quality, legality or outcome of tasks, the actions of users, or losses arising outside the platform.

Our total liability to a user for an order is limited to the amount paid for that order, except where mandatory law says otherwise.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profit, except where the law does not allow this exclusion. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

10. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in your profile. It is unavailable while you have active orders or money held for an order. After deletion your personal data is erased; anonymised records of orders, payments and messages are kept for accounting and dispute resolution.

11. Changes and governing law

We may update these Terms and will announce material changes in the app. Continuing to use the Service means you accept the new version. These Terms are governed by: the laws of the State of Delaware, USA. This does not limit mandatory consumer rights under your local law.

Questions: [email protected].

12. Your content and licence

You keep ownership of what you post (orders, photos, messages, reviews). You grant FolkNet a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, translate and process it to operate the Service, including showing it to the other party to an order and to administrators for support, disputes and safety.

You confirm that you have the right to post it. We may remove content that breaks these Terms.

13. Suspension and termination

We may warn, restrict, suspend or terminate an account, remove content, or cancel an order that is not yet paid if you break these Terms, put other users or the Service at risk, or the law requires it. Orders already in progress are completed or settled under sections 3 to 7.

If you think a restriction or termination is a mistake, write to us within 14 days and we will review it. We may refuse to open a new account for a user whose account was terminated for a serious breach.

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (section 10). Provisions that by their nature should continue, such as payments, disputes, liability and governing law, continue after termination.

14. Your responsibility

You are responsible for the orders, listings and tasks you post or perform and for following the laws that apply to you, including customs, import and tax rules.

To the extent the law allows, you agree to compensate FolkNet for losses caused by your breach of these Terms or by third-party claims arising from content or tasks you posted or performed in breach of these Terms. This does not apply to consumers where mandatory law does not allow it.

Taskers act as independent users and are responsible for their own taxes, permits and insurance. Where the law requires it, we may collect tax information and report Taskers' earnings to tax authorities.

In-person tasks: some tasks involve meeting in person, visiting a place or handling goods. FolkNet does not guarantee the conduct, safety or suitability of any user or place, and the risk of meeting or visiting rests with the parties. Meet in public places where possible and never share card details or one-time codes. A Client who lets a Tasker into their premises should hold suitable insurance.

Inspections, photos and reports: FolkNet does not check professional licences or qualifications. Unless a Tasker clearly states otherwise in the order, do not assume that they are a licensed inspector, appraiser, surveyor, mechanic, estate agent or lawyer. A report, photo, video or opinion from a Tasker (for example about a car, a flat or any other item or place) is information only. It is not a guarantee of condition, value, ownership or legality and may miss hidden defects. Do not make a major purchase or decision based on it alone; hire a qualified professional where it matters. Subject to section 9, FolkNet is not responsible for decisions you make or losses you suffer because of such information.

FolkNet does not handle, inspect or guarantee goods, their shipping, tracking or condition. The Tasker and the carrier are responsible for the parcel as agreed in the order.

Taskers must have the legal right to provide services in the country where they perform the task (for example citizenship, residence, a work permit or another lawful status), and the permits or registrations the task requires.

15. Third-party services

Payments and payouts are processed by Stripe under its own terms. Shipping labels, tracking, address suggestions, translation and AI features use third-party providers described in the Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for outages or actions of third-party services, except as the law requires.

Address search uses Google Maps Platform. By using it you are also bound by the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service (https://maps.google.com/help/terms_maps/) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).

If you download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the store's terms also apply. Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and have no obligation to provide support for the app.

16. Complaints and courts

Please contact [email protected] first; we aim to resolve complaints promptly. Subject to mandatory consumer law, disputes between you and FolkNet that cannot be resolved are brought in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, USA.

If you are a consumer in the EU, the UK or another place where the law gives you the right to bring a claim in the courts of your home country, that right is not affected.

17. Notices

We send notices through the app, push notifications or the email address of your account.

Legal notices to FolkNet: FolkNet Inc., a Delaware corporation, 1401 Lavaca Street, STE 80284, Austin, TX 78701, USA, with a copy to [email protected].

18. General

If a part of these Terms is invalid, the rest stays in force. You may not transfer your account or these Terms to another person; we may transfer them in a merger, acquisition or sale of the Service. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and FolkNet about the Service. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.

19. Reporting content and copyright

To report illegal content, abuse or a violation of these Terms, use the report button on an order or write to [email protected] with the order number or link, and what is wrong and why. We review reports, may remove content or restrict accounts, and tell the reporter the outcome. Reports must be made in good faith; knowingly false reports may lead to restrictions.

Copyright: if you believe content in the Service infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with your name and contact details, a description of the work, where the content is, a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised, a statement that your information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner, and your signature. We remove infringing content and may close the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed by mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same address.
